Welcome

Baháʼís of Lethbridge

Including the communities of Medicine Hat, Fort McCleod, Pincher Creek, Brooks, Taber, Claresholm and surround areas.

The Bahá’í Faith is a global religion embraced by millions of people around the world. Its teachings present a vision of a united and prosperous society in which the whole human family can live together in peace.

Here in Lethbridge and across Southern Alberta, the Bahá’í community reflects Canada’s rich cultural diversity. In cities, towns, and rural areas alike, Bahá’ís are working shoulder to shoulder with neighbours to contribute to the progress and wellbeing of their communities.

Bahá’ís follow the teachings of Bahá’u’lláh, a Divine Messenger whose principles offer a foundation for building a peaceful and just society. These include:

  • the oneness of humankind

  • the elimination of all forms of prejudice

  • the unity of all religions

  • the equality of women and men

  • the centrality of justice in all human affairs

  • the importance of education

  • and the recognition that true life is the life of the soul.

Bahá’u’lláh also established a powerful Covenant with humanity—a living bond that unites Bahá’ís around the world in all their diversity. Through this Covenant, His eldest Son, ‘Abdu’l-Bahá, was appointed as its Centre, and an Administrative Order was established to guide and energize the efforts of individuals and communities to serve society and contribute to the common good.

Our Vision

Building Community

Our Bahá’í community in Lethbridge and the surrounding area, like Bahá’í communities around the world, is wonderfully diverse. It brings together people of different ages and life experiences, cultures and religious backgrounds, from both villages and urban centres. Despite our varied circumstances, we share a common aspiration: together with our friends and neighbours, we strive to help build a community that is both materially and spiritually prosperous—guided by principles such as justice and the oneness of humanity.

We believe that every Albertan has both the right and the responsibility to contribute to the progress of society. By working selflessly for the well-being of others, we open the door to personal growth while advancing the development of the wider community.

Activities

Children's Classes

We hold informal children’s classes in our neighbourhood, offering spiritual education that helps strengthen children’s moral foundations—nurturing qualities such as nobility, integrity, kindness, and a spirit of service. These classes take place in a joyful and creative environment, and we hope to expand into other nearby neighbourhoods so more children and families can participate.

Junior Youth Spiritual Empowerment Program

We hope to expand our activities to include a program for young adolescents (ages 12–15). This initiative would help youth strengthen their power of expression and nurture their desire to contribute meaningfully to society through acts of service. By engaging in study, discussion, and community-building projects, participants grow in confidence and discover their capacity to make a positive difference.

Devotional Meetings

The Lethbridge Bahá’í community is working to establish regular devotional gatherings in our neighbourhood. These simple, welcoming spaces will bring together people of different faiths, cultures, and backgrounds to share prayers, reflect, and foster a spirit of unity in a respectful atmosphere.

Study Circles

Every Tuesday, a small group of local Bahá’ís meets in a study circle. Together, participants explore the Bahá’í writings and reflect on how these spiritual teachings can be applied to the challenges and opportunities of community life. The process helps each person see themselves as a protagonist in the development of society, strengthening both spiritual understanding and the capacity to serve others.
